Knox Presbyterian Church is a historic stone church in the heart of Elora, and it’s still home to an active congregation. So when its roof reached the end of its life, the church wanted a replacement that would last for generations and also suit the building’s character. For that reason, it chose Classic Products and an Armadura steel roof.
The Challenge
Knox has a large, complex roof, and the whole community cares about the building. As a result, the new roof had several jobs to do. First, it needed to look right on a historic building. It also had to stand up to snow, ice and freeze-thaw cycles. Finally, it needed far less upkeep than the old one.
What We Installed
We installed Armadura steel shingles in Crinkle Eclipse, made in Ontario. Their textured, stone-like finish sits well on older buildings. More importantly, like every roof we install, Armadura goes directly on the roof deck, not on wood strapping, so there’s no hidden gap where moisture can rot the roof structure. The panels also lock together on all four sides, which keeps out wind-driven rain and leaves no loose edges for animals to pry up. In addition, the fasteners sit hidden under the panels, away from sun and weather, so there are no exposed screws to loosen and leak. It all comes with a 50-year non-prorated warranty.
The Result
Today, the church has a roof that suits its character and won’t need replacing for decades. That means the congregation can put its time and money into its community instead of its roof.
